Kurigram: People have been affected by the 4th flood in Kurigram. The water level of Dharla River has increased abnormally due to heavy rains and steep slopes coming down from the upper reaches. The bridge point is flowing over 22 cm on Wednesday morning. Other rivers are still flowing below the danger line. About 25,000 people from 5,000 families have been stranded in the Dharla River due to the sudden rise in water level. The floods also inundated 100 hectares of aman crops, according to the Department of Agricultural Extension.
On the one hand, the water level in the river is rising and on the other hand, there is severe erosion in different areas. At present, 30 meters of the flood control dam in Sardab village of Halekhana union of Kurigram Sadar upazila has been breached and 10 more villages have been inundated with new taxes. The only paved road here is three meters deep in the river. In addition, four houses have gone under the river and thirty more houses are facing erosion. The houses of Nazrul Master, Abdul Mataleb, Monir Hassan and Moniram Mushi were destroyed on Wednesday morning. The Magelbasa flood control dam in Sadar upazila is under threat of erosion.
May: Ariful Islam, executive engineer of the Water Development Bird in Kurigram, said that as the rains continue upstream, the water level may rise further in the next 2-3 days, after which the water level will decrease. He also said that efforts are being made to prevent river erosion by dumping geo-bags on an emergency basis in different areas.
Kurigram Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension. Mostafizur Rahman Pradhan said that 100 hectares of aman crop along the river bank has been submerged due to the Dharla river flowing over the danger line.
District Administrator Mohammad Rezaul Karim said there was an abnormal rise in the Dharla river. Due to the increase in water, the people and various crops along the Dharla river have been flooded again. The concerned department has been asked to assess the damage.
