In this situation, he recently took to the streets on a motorcycle in search of a livelihood. For the last one and a half years, Shawkat Ali has been making a living by riding a motorcycle in the ride sharing app. But in the morning he got annoyed with the only source of livelihood and set himself on fire. The incident took place in the Badda Link Road area of the capital.
The video of the incident shows the driver of the motorcycle reacting angrily to something related to the case. He also poured petrol on his motorcycle and set it on fire. He tried to put out the fire but was stopped.
According to Badda police station sources, the motorcyclist Shawkat Ali had a shop for sanitary products in the capital’s Keraniganj. It has been closed for the last one and a half years. So recently he used to buy a motorcycle and bring passengers in the ride sharing app for the last 2-3 months. However, he was also annoyed with the current profession.
According to police sources, Shawkat, a traffic sergeant in charge of Badda Link Road area, wanted to see the documents of the motorcycle. He got angry and set himself on fire on the motorcycle. As a result, the motorcycle was burnt to ashes.
In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of the Department of Media and Public Relations of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday noon. Faruk Hossain said the traffic police sergeant on duty stopped a motorcyclist in Badda police station area. Want to see if the paperwork is OK? Then the driver behaved in a kind of rage without giving any documents. He later set himself on fire on his motorcycle. Initially he seems to be mentally ill. However, we are looking into whether the on-duty sergeant is to blame for the incident.
Asked where the motorcyclist was now, he said the man was now at our Badda police station. He is being interrogated. Why he suddenly set fire to the motorcycle, whether he had any mentality of sabotage or not is being investigated.
Asked whether the police would take any action in this regard, Farooq Hossain said, in fact, he himself set fire to his motorcycle. Now we are examining whether any legal action can be taken in case his mental condition is deranged. We may interrogate him and release him.
Meanwhile, Gulshan Traffic Deputy Commissioner (DC) said. Rabiul Islam said instructions were given to the traffic members on duty not to park any motorcycle in the morning where the incident took place. Members of the traffic police want to see the documents from the driver when a ride-sharing motorcycle is parked at the scene. But the driver did not show it and got angry and set his bike on fire
