Allegations of irregularities in collection of Sitakunda municipal toll

In Sitakunda, Chittagong, allegations of irregularities in the collection of municipal tolls have come to the notice of the toll collector.

On April 8, 2020, the toll collection fee was fixed by the Sitakunda Municipality in the toll collection schedule, but the lessee authorities are collecting additional toll there.

Today, on Tuesday, September 15, in the receipt of toll collection, there is a rule to take 10 rupees from CNG, autorickshaw, tempo as per the schedule, but 15 rupees has been taken. In this way, extra money is being imposed on the drivers every day without heeding the rules. The lessee authorities are robbing about 200 vehicles at Sitakunda on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

The mayor tried to find out about the additional toll by calling the freedom fighter Badiul Alam on his mobile phone more than once but nothing was known about it.

Shaista Khan Saju, convener of Sitakunda Upazila Chhatra League, said 15 rupees was being taken instead of the fixed 10 rupees for toll collection. If he does not have the authority to take toll from the highway, he is taking money by force. He is even collecting toll from private cars outside.
