After a long hiatus, two ferries have started operating experimentally on Sunday (October 25) afternoon. Due to the naval crisis, the ferry service on the Kanthalbari-Shimulia route was suspended for about 12 days.
According to ghat sources, on Sunday afternoon, a ferry left Kanthalbari for Shimulia with a small number of transports between the pillars No. 37 and 38 of the Padma Bridge through the alternative channel and left Comilla ferry from Shimulia for Kanthalbari Ghat.
The two ferries reach the two wharves through the alternative channel without any hindrance. The alternative channel is designed to supply power. Regular discussions have been held with the company to operate ferries through this channel. However, no one can say for sure whether the ferry will run regularly through the pillars of the Padma Bridge.
Alim Mia, manager of Kanthalbari Ghat, said the ferry service was limited to 12 days on Sunday afternoon due to the navigability crisis. Two ferry trials with alternative channels have been launched. However, it is not possible to say when the ferry service will be fully operational.
